WHAT TYPE OF DOCUMENTS CAN BE TRANSLATED?

Apart from doing translations for inter-departmental purposes, the office also accepts various types of documents for translation and for certification translation pertaining to court cases such as documents from other government departments e.g The Attorney General's Chambers, Syariah Court, Royal Brunei Police Force, Narcotics Control Bureau, Custom and Excise Department, Immigration and National Registration Department etc, private law firms and foreign embassies. All these documents are translated and certified to be used in Court proceedings.

 

CAN PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS HAVE THEIR DOCUMENTS TRANSLATED?

Translation Unit generally do not accept documents to be translated from private individuals for private purposes. However, the Unit will accept certain official documents which need to be certified by the Court and embossed with the Court seal to be recognized and submitted in foreign jurisdictions such as Birth certificates, Death Certificates, Marriage Certificates, Divorce Certificates, Personal Academic Certificates, Identity Card and official documents/certificates from other government departments.

 

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

Translation per translated page - $20.00
Certification of translation (per page) - $20.00

Translation and Certification of translation per page - $40.00



WHAT LANGUAGES DO YOU TRANSLATE/CERTIFY?

Translations are mainly from Malay to English and also from English to Malay. The Unit also does translation/certification of translation from Chinese to English and Malay and vice versa.


WILL PRIORITY BE GIVEN TO CERTAIN DOCUMENTS E.G COURT DOCUMENTS?

Priority is always given to inter-departmental documents and Court documents pertaining to ongoing Court cases

 

WHEN WILL I KNOW WHEN TO COLLECT MY DOCUMENT AND WHERE DO I COLLECT?

You will be contacted by phone by the translators when the document is ready for collection. Collection is made at:

The Translation Office
First Floor,

High Court Building

Or will be dispatched officially or placed in the relevant pigeon holes (for Law Firms) depending on whom the documents are from.
