COMMISSIONER FOR OATHS (CFO)

Commissioner for Oaths is a person who is authorized to verify affidavits, Statutory Declarations and other legal documents. CFO is also qualified to attest duplicate documents as Certified True Copies.

All CFOs charge a standard rate as prescribed under section 3 of the First Schedule in the Stamp Act (Chapter 34), Subordinate Courts Act (Chapter 6) Schedule 1. The following commissioning fees apply:

For documents to be used in a foreign country (other than Foreign Workers Employment Contract), deponents/declarants should have them executed in the presence of a Notary Public instead of a Commissioner for Oaths.

NOTARY PUBLIC

According to Supreme Court Act [Chapter 5 Section 30];

2) The Chief Registrar, Deputy Chief Registrar, Senior Registrars and Registrars shall be ex-officio Commissioners for Oaths and notaries public.

Hence, High Court Registrar of the Supreme Court who are also by virtue the Magistrate of the Subordinate Courts are qualified to notarize any documents to be used in foreign country.

The Subordinate Courts' Registry is available in four (4) districts in Negara Brunei Darussalam.
