The Honourable Chief Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong heard an application this morning for
Mr. Simon Henry Farrell, Queen’s Counsel (QC) to be admitted to practice as an Advocate and
Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam pursuant to the Legal Profession Act,
Chapter 132, for the purpose of representing both defendants in HCCT No. 11 of 2018 and for
the purpose of and in all matters related to the proceedings by the Public Prosecutor against
former judicial officers Ramzidah binti Pehin Datu Kesuma Diraja Kol (B) Haji Abdul Rahman and
Haji Nabil Daraina bin Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Ustaz Hj Badaruddin.
Mr. Sheikh Noordin submitted to the Chief Justice in support of the application that he has been
instructed by both defendants to secure the services of a QC who possesses the specialist skills,
qualifications and experience in handling white collar crimes, including in particular cases
involving money laundering and confiscation of assets of properties. Both the Attorney General’s
Chambers and the Law Society had no objections for the admission of Mr. Simon Henry Farrell,
QC. The Chief Justice ruled that he was satisfied that Mr. Simon Henry Farrell, QC has the special
skills and qualifications to represent both defendants in HCCT No. 11 of 2018 and in all related
proceedings and granted an order in terms of the application for his admission to practice as an
Advocate and Solicitor in the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam.
The further mention in respect of HCCT No. 11 of 2018 will be heard on 14th February 2019 at
2.00 pm before the Honourable Justice Gareth Lugar-Mawson. Members of the public are
informed that whilst proceedings are in open court, space in the public galleries is limited and
photography or video recordings is not allowed in courtrooms. Members of the public are also
reminded to abide by court etiquette when attending proceedings.
